A MINI COURSE
The Laws of God
Topic: The Laws of God
Scripture Reading: (Hebrews 8;13)
Purpose: Understanding the importance of the laws of God helps us understand what are the laws of man and what are the laws of God. What laws are forever and what laws are fulfilled in Christ Jesus
A MINI COURSE
1.The Royal Law
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone. (James 2:8,9).
2.The Ceremonial Law
And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice (Deut 4;12.31).
3.What is the nature of the moral law
or The Royal Law?
The law of God is perfect converting the soul (Psalm 19:7).
4.Could the keeping of the ceremonial law make us wise unto salvation
No! Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; (Hebrews 9;9)
5.How long were the ordinance of man inplace for?
Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation (Hebrews 9;10)
6. Did the reformation come when Christ came?
Yes. But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building. Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. (Hebrews 9;11,12).
7.How did Christs death effect ceremonial laws
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; (Col 2;14).
8.Does God bless us for going to Church even though we are the temple of God?
For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. (Hebrews 7:18,19).
NOTES:
A clear understanding of the two sets of laws helps us see the differences between many issues in the church and our placement in Christ. It helps us embrace the law of god the ten commandments when we see all other commandments like, men and beards, woman who preach and teach in church, and so be able to correctly divide the word of God and see what commandments are for all time and what commandments are temporal, those that finished when Christ came.
The ceremonial laws, were rules and regulations for ceremonies.
KEY: Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. 18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility…… Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, 21(Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? 23Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh. (Colossians 2:16-23)
‘‘Christ took away the First that man might find salvation in him and not the law.’’ …’Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.’ (Hebrews 10:9).
What was the first he took away?
Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; (Hebrews 10:8). Offerings, burnt offerings, sacrifices. laws and rules of men that many think make them holy and bring them salvation. these things have no power to remove sin or make a man holy. ie. Not having a beard… not wearing a wedding ring… not having long hair….keeping holy days….going to a physical building to worship… having your wife to wear certain clothes….telling a woman not to preach or teach….. Doing these things cannot save you OR make one holy
Lets look at the case of Acts 15.
It has come to our attention that some went out from us without our authorization and unsettled you, troubling your minds by what they said.c 25So we all agreed to choose men to send to you along with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to tell you in person the same things we are writing.
It has come to our attention that some went out from us without our authorization It has come to our attention that some went out from us without our authorization and unsettled you, troubling your minds by what they said. (Acts 15:1). Certain men came from Judea teaching Circumcision as given by Moses. This posed a problem for the apsotles who took corrective action. ….. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond these essential requirements: 29You must abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals, and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. (Acts 15:28-29).
CONCLUSION: What is the Holy Ghost saying?Understandin salvation as given by Jesus and the apostles as a death burial and resurrection…settles the issue. Salvation if complete, his shed blodd is enough. The Holy Ghost then teaches a man how to walk and live right…this is enough. scriptures will confirm what the Spirit is saying. BE FREE from legalism and man made hindrences that are archaic and have nothing to do with going to heaven or living a Godly righteous and Holy Life.
Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
5For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. 6But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:1-9)
Questions to Consider: 1.What has been abolished by Christ (Col 2:14 and Ephesians 2:15,16). 2.What are many relying on to save them apart from the blood of Jesus?
