PROPOSITION: The gospel is what Jesus gave in John3:5 Many think that Paul gave us the gospel Roman 10;9 however the gospel is the gospel of Jesus and what Paul told us is just a first step one needs to take in order to receive the gospel of Jesus
AIM: to reveal the incredible fact that the gospel works. History proves it, the apostles preached it, the birth of the early church bears witness to it. There is no gospel like it. And this gospel is for all of us to preach today.
INTRODUCTION: The gospel is given in outline in the gospels but it is given by preaching and practice in Acts. The gospel shows us who should be saved (John 3:5) the book of acts show us how to be saved (Acts 2:38)
1.What should we preach?
.. the gospel of the kingdom (Mark 1:14)
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4).
But that it spread no further among the people, let us straightly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. (Acts 4:17).And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. (Acts 4:18).But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye (Acts 4:19).For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. (Acts 4:12).
2.Send them to preach the kingdom of GodThen he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick(Luke 9:1,2,6).And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing everywhere.(Luke 9:6)
3.What did Jesus preach
I Must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also for therefore am I sent (Luke 4:43).Speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom (Acts 1:3).Spoke boldly..the things concerning the kingdom..heard the Word of the Lord… mightily grew the Word(Acts 19:3, Acts 10:21).To whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of god (Acts 28:23).
4.They preached the Word of the Lord…the gospel in many villagesAnd they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.(Acts 8:25).
5.What were the apostles sent to preach.
And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. (Luke 9:2,).And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing everywhere. (Luke 9:6).
6.What is the gospel of the kingdom?
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Except a man be born of water and Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God (John 3:4,5).
7.He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mark 16:15-18)
8.Has man a choice over which version of the gospel he preaches? If any man preach any other gospel unto you than you have received let him be accursed (Galatians 1:9).
9. There is only one gospel that has power!“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. (Romans 1;16).Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: (1 Cor 15;1-3).
Questions to Consider: 1.What is our responsibility for the fulfilling of the great commission? 2.What daily habits can we develop to manifest our personal responsibility? 3.Define the gospel in sentence. 4.What was the gospel Jesus said to preach in his name? 5.How can a man practically enter into 1 Cor 15, the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus as the gospel which Paul said was his gospel. 6.Did Paul baptise any in his name? (1 Cor 1;13-17). 7.Explain John 3:5).
